To borrow from Dickens, “It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.” Most relationships start out with the “best of times,” and somewhere along the way, many of us run into some of the “worst of times.”

Couples Therapy

We specialize in working with couples during the worst of times – those stuck places, dark times, and miserable patches. The goals are to relieve psychological suffering, create conditions for healing and reconnection, move you both toward a more comfortable way of being together, and to find the way ahead.

Our way of doing Couples Therapy has two therapists in the room with you both. In this case, the work is done with my partner, Tony Delmedico, PhD, LMFT, as a Co-Therapist. We work with you as a couple to resolve problems using a depth psychological model that aims to get below the surface of the problems.

Dialogue Therapy

Our model for couples therapy is based upon the work of Polly Young-Eisendrath and Ed Epstein. Our Couples Therapy can offer you both deep insight into the root causes of your issues, and can open up the possibility for a new acceptance of your partner and yourself. You will learn how to have more honest and intimate conversations, and how to avoid re-wounding while fostering renewed connections.

Even from the first session, our couples therapy requires you both to speak with each other and develop skills that do not depend on the therapist. There is a special opportunity for each of you to explore your relationship together as well as to develop individually.

How it Works

Couples therapy is difficult, time consuming, and expensive. With that in mind, our goal is to work as efficiently as possible and on a time-limited basis. 90-minute sessions allow you to engage deeply on the issues you are encountering. The longer sessions provide ample space to really un-pack the material and work toward resolution.

90-minute session - $200

NOTE: The fee for Couples Therapy is not reimbursable by insurance providers.
